One of my
worries as a mom is the kind of world I will leave behind for the generations
of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I Heard the Willow Weep is
a heart felt picture book made of of two parts. Part one is a poem full of
illustrations that ask the question, "what have we done?" It sheds
light in a way that a child can catch on to the concept of how we discard,
destroy ecosystems like oceans and forests, and are on a path that can lead to
an inhabitable Earth. It promises a solution however, if WE take care of OUR
Earth.
Part two of the
picture book touched me even more. Along with illustrations, the book provides
art in the form of photography. Part Two answers the question, "What can
we do?" This part is a plethora of knowledge on the many ways we can put
in our part of taking care of the Earth by recycling and getting to know our
wildlife in order to preserve it. There are fun activity guides for children
that will entertain them for hours.
I give this
picture book 4 out of 4 stores. Part one is a truly enjoyable poem that a child
will enjoy listening to as he/she looks at the illustrations while part two
continues with the theme and illustrations AND also provides a solution to a
very important problem.
This book sounds very interesting. I actually vaguely recall reading this book as a child because I remember seeing the cover, but I do not remember what it was about. I chose to look at this post specifically because I was interested in finding out what it was about. After reading what you had to write, I totally agree with you. I think this would be a very good book for young children to read because it can not only keep them entertained with the detailed images, but it also teaches them a valuable lesson from a young age. Doing what we can to protect the Earth is so important, especially now that we have already damaged it so much, so teaching children to be kind to it can help us protect to Earth through the generations.
